Matalao, Sto. Nino, Cagayan Barangay Captain was mauled by several supporters of Monino Verdiano, a former colonel running for mayor, while COMELEC officials were transporting the PCOS machine in the area last Wednesday. Barangay captain Jimmy Macasaddu is now confined at the Nuestra Senora de Piat Hospital after he was mauled in front of his men. The COMELEC personnel were unloading the PCOS in the area when the men of Verdiano came and were reportedly unruly. Macasaddu castigated them and he and his men chased them out while they were riding motorcycles. But when they reportedly reached a vacant lot, the Verdiano supporters turned around and chased Macasaddu. Then they beat him up, according to the police report. Verdiano is running against incumbent Mayor Andrew Pagulayan.
